I’ll cut to the chase because I know that your time and mine is valuable so I won’t bore you with a lot of extra SEO garbled up gobbledygook (though I can’t promise there won’t be any, it’s what we do after-all).

If you were here sitting in my office you’d probably ask me, “What do you mean by paying-it-forward? Are you talking about doing something anonymously for three people like  in the movie, Pay It Forward with Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey, Jim Caviezel, and that cute kid Haley Joel Osment?”

I’d like to think you would  pay it forward to more than just three people and I certainly don’t expect you to do it anonymously ( but you can do that too, it’s kinda fun). It seems to me that the best way to build a stable business with a fabulous corporate culture in the community is to bring as many people along the road to success with us as we can.  William D. Wattles in his book, “The Science of Getting Rich”, talks about this very thing.

While we have to keep our eye on what the market will bear for pricing our products we need to remember that there is more to business than just our pricing. If we can keep from being in the competitive mindset and remember to move to the creative side as well, you’ll see that people don’t always gravitate to the lowest price.

Now I’m not asking us to give away our business secrets or  our profits, but it wouldn’t hurt us to help other entrepreneurs on their way to success. Wattles maintains that there is enough out there for all of us if we are willing to think of ways to creatively prosper.

I’d like to encourage all of us to get involved in our local Chamber of Commerce. If you’re not sure where they are, here’s a link to the U. S. Chamber of Commerce. How about sponsoring your local high school sports, music, science or arts programs? Donations are always welcome. In the beginning if you have to, think of it as investing your advertizing dollars in more than one place. Soon you’ll begin to see what we’ve been experiencing here at Canyon Business Communications. We feel better being a part of the bigger picture.

It’s a tough economy right? Things are tight, we worry more. Well, get out there and do something for someone else and soon you’ll not only feel better but you’ll present yourself better and that, my friend, brings in business. No one and I mean not anyone I know, ever cares to do business with a solemn, overburdened sales person who can’t be bothered to muster up a genuine smile. Zion National Park

One of the fabulous benefits of living in Southern Utah is the opportunity to hike all around Zion National Park. When you decide to visit our neck of the woods (it’s really the desert down here) be sure to check out this helpful guide in planning and preparation.  This week I had the opportunity to hike the Riverside Walk along the Virgin River. Our journey began at the Temple of Sinawava. The trail, paved and clearly marked made the hike a pleasure to take. As we made our way along the trail I found myself sheltered from the winter elements by the sandstone canyon walls. Although we did at times, (where allowed) deviate from the regular path to walk closer along the river. What amazed me was the fine sand that covered the ground; reminding me that Zion National Park with it’s mountain feel,  is an oasis in the middle of  the desert.

I have to admit it was pretty cold in certain areas along the trail but we prepared for that by dressing in layers and wearing beanies and gloves. The indirect sunlight illuminated the clay sandstone, providing some warmth even though the better part of our hike was in the shade.

Most of our visitors start to come in the spring and on through until Thanksgiving. After that the Town of Springdale, Utah resembles that of a ghost town.

The  end of the 1 mile hike along the  Riverside Walk is the opening to The Narrows. The video I’ve linked to is provided by youtube.com. I can’t wait to go hiking The Narrows when summer comes but don’t expect to see me jumping off the waterfall they come across. I’ve been told (haven’t done it yet)depending on rainfall for the year,  that the waters in The Narrows can be waist-deep in some places.

Before I carry on any further, let me try to establish, for the purposes of this post what I know the metaphysical definition to be. If dictionary.com can be trusted the following is offered as a definition for metaphysical:

2. Philosophy: (a.) concerned with abstract thought or subjects, as existence, causality, or truth. (b.)concerned with first principles and ultimate grounds, as being, time, or substance.

Helpful? Yeaahhh, I didn’t think so either. It seems to me that anything we (we being society in general) can’t nail down into a specific proven fact gets shoved into the metaphysical category. And before you wonder what this has to do with a blog post for an e-commerce site that sells stuff, let me explain.

Are you a dork like me? The one thing that sent me running to find a protective cover for my iPad 2 was the very first time I’d dropped it. Now, I wasn’t totally irresponsible (hey, I’m human you know!) with my beloved iPad 2. I had the guys at my local Apple store  put one of those protective films on it.

But dropping it–even on the plush golden brown 1970′s carpet (yeah so not my choice)  in my bedroom and already with the filmy protective shield (which is just to keep it from scratching, it doesn’t help the clumsy), stopped my heart.

I don’t know about you but $499.00 for an iPad 2 that’s wireless with only 16GB is quite the investment. Trust me when I say, this is my baby and like all babies, they need protecting. Check out some of our iPad 2 accessories (as we get time more will become available for reasonable prices).

Cisco Linksys USB Wireless Device

When having difficulty connecting to the internet through the use of your USB wireless device, first check the icon in your tool bar at the bottom of your screen to see if you are connected to  your wireless router device. If it’s not, check your router and make sure it’s connected to your service provider.

If it’s not, you can reboot the device and wait to see if it reconnects. If not, phone your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and get help through their technical department. If you are connected here are some steps to take that might help you:

First remember this old joke…
Customer: I can’t get my computer to work.
Help Desk: What seems to be the problem?
Customer: The screen is  black.
Help Desk: Is your computer on?
Customer: How do I turn it on?
Help Desk: Push the power button.

As old and tired out as that joke is, it has merit. Particularly if you are connected to your internet router via a wireless device. Here are some simple tips to getting reconnected:

1. Remember our joke: check to see if there’s a light that is on.  Sometimes it’s a green light, sometimes it’s blue. I use a Cisco Linksys USB Wireless device and mine is blue. It blinks when it’s on and working.
2. Reboot your computer: particularly if you leave your computer on all day and night and it goes to idle mode, (which you should be doing to save your screen and energy).
3. If that doesn’t help, go to the set up wizard for your device to be sure it’s installed properly. This includes ensuring that you’ve installed the factory software that enables your device to work. If your hardware came with a disc be sure to use the wizard set up on the disc and follow instructional prompts as they are given.
4. Alternatively, if you have no software disc: Go to the Control Panel > Add Hardware ( follow instructive steps).
5. Next try: Control Panel > network connections > right click > disable > wait 30 seconds > right click again > enable
6. Then go to: Control Panel > system > hardware > device manager > find YOUR card in the item list > disable it > wait 30 seconds > enable it again.
7. Reboot your computer.

**Helpful Hints:

• I recently learned that sometimes USB wireless devices run hot and this can cause them to “hang”. That doesn’t mean it’s defective,  just that you need to turn the device off and let it cool for a bit and then restart it.
• Always use the “Safely remove USB device” function on your tool bar. If you don’t, you run the risk that the Operating System of your computer might crash and it could ruin the card.
